Living a Week at Benton House
Benton House is excited to be hosting 8 volunteers from Roosevelt University for the week! Living in the floor of the upstairs common room, they are spending each day this week immersed in the life of Benton House. Their projects this week include redoing the kitchen, painting, helping out with the after school program and food pantry, as well as assisting with other work around the place. We are incredibly grateful for their willingness to give up their Spring Break in service to others.
Here's more about their Alternative Break Immersion week:
Roosevelt University's Alternative Break Immersion is a community service opportunity for students who wish to spend their Spring Break in a volunteer based setting. Created by the Center for Student Involvement, ABI is now in it's second year and consists of pre-break trainings and post-break reflections, in addition to a week spent at a community organization.

Roosevelt's first year of ABI was held at The Big Ugly Community Center, a Step by Step program in Harts, West Virginia. With this year's trip at the Benton House in Bridgeport, it's an excellent opportunity for Roosevelt Students to learn more about their own city. This experience is not only meant to expose students to different communities and people, but to give back whether it be through construction and renovation projects or helping with an after school program. Roosevelt University is thankful to be apart of the Benton House and all its fantastic work for this year's Alternative Break Immersion.
